Compared to narrowband UVB, conventional “broadband” UVB lamps emit light in a broader range. “Narrowband” UVB lamps, on the other hand, emit light over a very short range of wavelengths. It is this short range of wavelengths that offer better quality treatment at much safer levels. We use top quality and cutting rate technology for your phototherapy treatments.
Side effects of narrowband UVB phototherapy can include what feels like a slight normal sunburn. Using topical emollients will help soothe these effects. If the over-the-counter creams are not easing the side effects, your dermatologist might prescribe some topical steroids as well.
While side effects are inevitable part of UVB phototherapy, there are still fewer than with broadband therapy.
“It is as effective as other types of eczema phototherapy and has fewer side effects because you don’t need to take a pill. Narrowband UVB uses a very small part of the UVB spectrum, which cuts down on exposure to UV radiation.”
