Dr. Sewell is a familiar face to many in Idaho Falls having spent his junior and senior high school years here. After serving a mission in South Africa, Botswana, and Lesotho, he attended the University of Utah receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1999. Leaving Utah and Idaho behind, he attended medical school in our nation’s capital at The George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. Following graduation in 2003, he stayed at GWU for a one-year internship in internal medicine and then moved on to dermatology residency at Geisinger Medical Center in central Pennsylvania. Upon the conclusion of residency training and obtaining a board certification in 2007, he stayed at Geisinger for another year. He combined a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology. While there, he was also on the general dermatology staff at Geisinger, both seeing patients independently and supervising an evening resident clinic.
In 2008, Dr. Sewell moved to Idaho Falls to begin private practice by joining long-time friend and colleague, Dr. James Willis at High Valley Dermatology. Dr. Sewell has always been concerned about going the extra mile to ensure patients are well cared for and pleased with their experience as his patient.

Dr. Miner is a native of Ammon, Idaho, and is happy to return home to offer care to the great people of Southeast Idaho. After serving a mission in Northern England, he obtained his bachelor of science in zoology from Idaho State University in 2002. He then attended medical school at the University of New England in Maine. Upon completion of medical school in 2006, he completed his residency in Dermatology in affiliation with Michigan State University in 2010. After several years in practice, Dr. Miner moved to Chicago to complete a full fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstruction.
This desire to further hone his surgical skills and offer his skin cancer patients the highest level of care prompted Dr. Miner to leave Wyoming for his 1-year fellowship in Mohs micrographic and reconstructive surgery in downtown Chicago with the Northwestern Skin Cancer Institute. He finished this additional training in July 2013 and joined High Valley Dermatology at that time. He is board certified in dermatology since 2011 and practices adult, pediatric, and cosmetic dermatology.
Dr. Miner lectures at local and national meetings, is active in community health education, and has publications in multiple peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he continues to share his extensive training in medical dermatology, Mohs micrographic surgery, and cosmetic therapies with his patients as well as rotating students. His care, compassion, and skill are a great addition to High Valley Dermatology.
Dr. Lena Elizabeth Gowring moved to the Idaho Falls area after completing 10 years active duty service in the Air Force Dr. Gowring completed medical school at Des Moines University in 2008. After finishing a surgical internship year at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio Texas, she completed the USAF Aerospace Medicine Primary Course and served as a flight surgeon for 3 years. She was stationed at McConnell AFB in Wichita Kansas serving at the flight surgeon for the 350th Air Refueling Squadron. During this time she deployed over seas to serve in Operation(s) enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom from 2009–2012.
Dr. Gowring was then selected for dermatology residency training at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, in San Antonio, Texas. She served as the chief resident during her last year and earned board certification July 2015.
She comes to the Idaho Falls area from Keelser Medical Center Biloxi MS where she severed at the chief of dermatology for the last year, and associate professor of dermatology affiliated with Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD for the last 3 years. During this position she taught internal medicine residents, physician assistant and nurse practitioner students as they came through dermatology on rotation.
Dr. Gowring is a board certified dermatologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons. She is also an active member of the Association of military Dermatologists.
Dr. Gowring enjoys practicing all aspects of dermatology. She moved to the area with her husband John and their two children.

Joe Anderson was raised in Thomas, ID, spending his teenage summers moving wheel-lines in potato and wheat fields. He graduated from Snake River High School in 1989, going to All-State and All-Northwest Choirs. He next spent two years in Yap and Guam serving a mission, where he enjoyed life in the beautiful Pacific. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from BYU in 1996. Joe worked at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in the clinical laboratory in hematology and chemistry for 1 ½ years. Then he went back to school and, in 2000, graduated with High Honors from Idaho State University’s Physician Assistant program with another Bachelors of Science Degree. He is a board certified PA. He is a fellow in the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Idaho Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.
2016 marks Joe’s 15th year working in dermatology. He adds a great deal of general dermatology experience to High Valley Dermatology. You name it and he’s seen it—when talking about skin conditions and treatment. He loves the people of Southeastern Idaho and is delighted to provide dermatology health care in an amiable and efficient manner. He has worked closely with the doctors of High Valley Dermatology for over 10 years.
Cherice Pickett is a highly trained Aesthetician who brings to her work a multi-faceted interest, passion and knowledge in progressive skin care techniques and the role diet, nutrition, and exercise play in skin health.
Cherice has received her training at the reputable schools of, Austin Kade Academy in Idaho Falls, Idaho, The Rocky Mountain Laser College in Denver, Colorado, and Esthetics Advisor Laser Academy in Phoenix, Arizona. This is where she received her license in Aesthetics, certifications in Dermaplaning, Microneedling, Laser Safety, and as a Laser Technician.
Cherice has a passion for helping people feel comfortable in their own skin. She is passionate about aiding others in putting their best skin forward. She loves being a girly girl and embraces the joy of beauty while also being intrigued by the science behind gorgeous skin.
Cherice joins the ranks of elite Aestheticians who are recognized as setting the highest caliber of standards for professional skin therapy in the Idaho Falls area. As a dedicated skin care expert and laser specialist, Cherice seeks to educate others about proper skin care, appropriate product selection, and customized regimens.
Cherice is a wife and mother to 4 kids, with a brand new grand baby. In her free time she loves to travel the world with her partners in crime and be with her family.
