There could be some skin care habits that are making your acne worse. Here are 10 of the most common according to American Academy of Dermatology.
1-Trying a new Acne medication every week or two
This can irritate your skin more causing more breakouts. Instead stick to one product for 6-8 weeks. Generally it takes at least that long to see an improvement.
2-Applying the acne mediation only to the acne
This fails to prevent further breakouts. Instead apply the medication to the acne prone area or entire face.
3-Use skin care, hair care, or makeup that can cause acne
Many of these products contain oils that can clog pores and cause breakouts. Make sure they say non-comedogenic.
4-Sharing make up, brushes, or other applicators
Even if you are using products that are non-comedogenic, when you share these products you can transfer oils, bacteria and skin cells which can cause acne.
5-Sleeping in your makeup
Even non-comedogenic products can cause acne when slept in. Wash your face before bed.
6-Washing your face frequently throughout the day
Over washing your face can irritate your skin causing more breakouts. Wash your face morning and night. You may also want to wash after an activity that that makes you sweat.
7-Dry out your skin
Many people associate acne with oily skin, however, drying out your skin is very irritating which then leads to more breakouts. Our skin needs those oils. Apply a moisturizer twice daily if your skin is dry.
8-Scrub your skin
Scrubbing your skin to get rid of your acne irritates your skin more causing more breakouts. Be gentle!! Apply a gentle cleanser, use your fingers to rub in circular motions, rinse with water, and pat dry.
9-Rub sweat from your skin during a workout
Roughly rubbing sweat from your skin with a towel during a workout can cause more irritation. Instead use a clean towel to gentle pat.
10- Pop or squeeze breakouts
When you pop or squeeze breakouts, you can push that bacteria, pus or skin cells deeper into the skin. This can lead to more inflammation and can also cause scarring.
