Ringworm is Not a Worm!

One of the most commonly asked questions about ringworm treatment is whether or not ringworm has anything to do with an actual worm. Rest assured, you are worm-free if you are only dealing with ringworm.

It is a very common fungal infection that can happen to anyone. The medical term for ringworm is tinea.

Symptoms of Ringworm

  • Skin areas that are itchy, red, raised, and/or scaly
    • These might even blister and weep
  • Skin patches affected by ringworm tend to have sharply-defined edges.
  • These red patches are often more red around the outside edge.
    • This may look like a ring.

Ringworm Treatment Options

Most of the time, ringworm can be successfully treated with an anti-fungal topical medication that you dermatologist will prescribe to you. Prescribed ringworm medication must be used exactly as instructed. All too often patients will start to see an improvement on their skin and will forego the rest of their treatment.

Ringworm is a tricky skin condition that will pop back up if given the chance. The anti-fungal medication must be used completely and as directed. Some ringworm cases require a couple attempts with different anti-fungal medications to completely eradicate the fungus.
